![]() Severe Tooth PainToothaches are not always considered emergencies, but when the pain is so bad that you cannot do anything else, you should come in right away. Also, a toothache that is so painful that it wakes you up in the middle of the night needs to be addressed immediately.Oral TraumaIf you have experienced a facial or oral trauma, it could be considered a dental emergency. A lot of it will depend on what your pain level is. Also, if you have bleeding in your mouth from the trauma that does not stop after a couple of minutes, we need to see you right away.If you have lost a tooth because of trauma, that is another reason to come in immediately. Do not touch the root of the tooth, pick it up by the top. If possible, rinse the tooth off and place it back in its socket. If not possible, place it in a cup of milk and bring it with you. Chip That Hurts If you have a chipped tooth that does not hurt, it is probably not an emergency. If your tooth is chipped or cracked and there is pain, you need to come in right away. Lacerations If you have a large laceration inside your mouth, it is a good idea to seek treatment immediately. If the cut is small, it might not be considered an emergency. In general, if something has happened to your teeth or mouth, or if you have unexplained pain, you can consider it an emergency. Do not wait to see us, because time is of the essence in many cases. |
